The background
Dr Cortellini is an internationally renowned specialist in periodontics, known for years also for his intensive teaching work, which began in person in Florence with a dedicated facility offering the most advanced technical support in the field. A steadily growing activity that has drawn the attention of professionals from all over the world — and the reason Dr Cortellini came to SharEvent with three main needs:
- to take his teaching academy online, so that all his courses could overcome the limits of space and time and be taken anywhere in the world at any moment;
- to put at the centre the professionals who already follow the Cortellini Perio Academy, keeping them up to date on the latest courses and giving them the chance to request and propose further ones, including bespoke programmes;
- to strengthen and further develop the community of professionals who have gathered around the Cortellini Perio Academy across the world over the years, by creating a private space for professional discussion, exchanging experience and ongoing debate.
What we did and how we did it
Using the SharEvent event management platform as the foundation, we built a website with the integrated CMS, featuring:
- complete customisation of structure and design, to make the brand recognisable and to optimise navigation and content;
- a public area (open access) presenting the project and all the information interested professionals need for a precise picture of what the Cortellini Perio Academy offers, and how to make the most of it;
- a private area, open only to registered professionals through their own personal credentials, holding all the online courses;
- a study club — a platform for involving Academy members in advanced discussion of clinical cases, new surgical procedures, refined treatment strategies and the application of products and biomaterials. The area, accessible of course only to registered professionals, was divided into themed “rooms” so that individual topics and cases could be explored properly, and for this we used SharEvent’s new Forum function, customised to the specific needs of the project;
- a section for registration and payment of the platform subscription.
Conclusions
Like every SharEvent project, the Cortellini Perio Academy started from an analysis of the needs and objectives not only of the client but also of the people who would ultimately use the tools. That, together with the flexibility of the suite of tools that makes up SharEvent, made it possible to create a product that was at once highly tailored to the client’s requirements, to the use the end customers had to be able to make of it and to the specific characteristics of the product; flexible — able, that is, to adapt as the project grows — and simple to use, so as to encourage interaction. All of it, of course, without losing sight for a moment of the confidentiality of people, data and information, which is essential if everyone is to feel at ease on the platform and confident in using it as best suits them.
The result is a platform for catalogue and on-demand training capable not only of widening the horizons of an already established and consolidated academy, but of extending its potential impact — above all through the direct contributions of the people at its heart. More than simply a learning tool, essential though that is for the field and for those working in it, it is a hub of knowledge, where expertise is passed on and circulated, shared and debated, and so becomes a source of constant enrichment, professional and personal alike, for people who are not merely users but genuine participants.
